Today is National Underdog Day. Do you know what an underdog is? It’s the person or team that is expected to lose in a competition. Think of all your basic sports movies–Mighty Ducks, Sandlot–or even Star Wars (since you know, the new one kinda just came out…). The tiny group of rebels could never defeat the might Empire right? And of course, the most famous underdog–David vs Goliath.

You know who else seemed like an underdog? Jesus. He was born in a stable, to a carpenter. As he grew older, the important people in his town did not think much of him. And when he died on the cross for us, he was spit on and made fun of. It looked like it was all over… but then, he rose from the grave and is sitting at God’s right hand, waiting for the day that God brings us all home. In the end, God wins. Even if it doesn’t always seem like that in the world, don’t ever doubt the fact that God defeats evil.

Christ Jesus died for us, but that is not all. He was also raised from death. And now he is at God’s right side, speaking to him for us.

Romans 8:34 (ERV)

We must never stop looking to Jesus. He is the leader of our faith, and he is the one who makes our faith complete. He suffered death on a cross. But he accepted the shame of the cross as if it were nothing because of the joy he could see waiting for him. And now he is sitting at the right side of God’s throne.

Hebrews 12:2 (ERV)

Dear Jesus, Thank you for coming to earth. During Christmastime, help me remember all you did for me, and to not forget it. Thank you for knowing me and speaking for me. Amen.
