Welcome to the first day of July. This also means hotter weather: fun fact–did you know you can figure out the temperature by counting cricket chirps? I promise, I’m not making this up–according to research (Google it yourself to check) –if you count how many cricket chirps you hear in a 15 second time period, then add the total to the number 37, you get the temperature in Fahrenheit degrees.

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain; it was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake, there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, there was the sound of a gentle whisper.
1 Kings 19:11-2 (TLB)
God speaks to us in many different ways, but one way is in a whisper, like he does to Elijah. God can speak in a mighty way, like in an earthquake, or when he shakes up your life in a big way. But sometimes he whispers to us, in quiet gentle moments. Like listening to crickets.
Be ready to listen for him–don’t let the world drown out what he wants to whisper to you. How? Be praying and talking to God often, and you’ll be ready.
Dear Lord, help my ears to be ready, whisper to me. Forgive me for being so busy and focused on my self that I forget to listen or talk to you, but I’m ready now Lord. Amen.
