I would bet, that you never say anything you wish you didn’t. You never get angry and say the wrong thing, you never are mean, you never complain. Right? Wrong. We all do that, it’s part of being human.
God calls us to love–it’s one of his highest commands to us to love one another. One way to do this is to try and watch our words. Quite often we get angry and say the wrong thing to our friends and family–usually the ones that are closest to us.
Think about how you treat people when you are angry, or disappointed, or discouraged. That’s usually when we tend to say things, mostly because we’re mad at ourselves or at a situation.
Ask God to forgive you for those moments. Then think of how you can do better tomorrow–let’s all work on waiting a minute, processing our own emotions, and then talking. It’s hard, but one step, or, one word at a time.
A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, But harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger.
Proverbs 15:1 (AMP)
Dear Lord, forgive me for any harsh words that came out of my mouth today. Teach me to treat others well, even if I’m struggling with a difficult emotion. Amen.
