Today is National Simplicity Day –there are many thinkers in the world, one named Thoreau (said Thur–oh) who wrote a lot about living a more simple life. It’s believed that if we had less stuff, if we did less things, and kept to the basics–the most important things in our lives–we’d be more content and happy.

Some of this echoes what Jesus taught us too. He often preached that we should not worry about material things, but focus on Heaven.

But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

1 Timothy 6:8 (NIV)

Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have because He has said, “I will never leave you; I will always be by your side.”

Hebrews 13:5 (VOICE)

Think today how you can simplify things–you probably have some toys you could donate for example? Or maybe next time you’re at the store, you don’t really need to ask for something new, right?

Dear Lord, Forgive me for my love of things and of money. Teach me how to keep things simple, and to be content with what I have, and to not always want more and new things. Amen.
