Today is National Loving Day… yeah, I thought that too, it sounds like a day to give hugs and tell people you love them, right? Nope.

Loving Day is actually the anniversary of a big court case where the Supreme Court (the highest level court in the USA) made a law in 1967, that it was no longer illegal for black people and white people to get married. Yes, you read that right–there was a time when you could get arrested for marrying someone of a different color skin.

It seems crazy to us, but there were times like that–aren’t you glad you live in the year 2019? But you know what? We still aren’t perfect. You are a generation that can change things. Treat everyone with respect and dignity. Dignity means honor and self-respect. Let’s get rid of this feeling that some people are better than others, based on their skin color, age, if they are a man or woman–all of those things.

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.

Philippians 2:1-3 (ESV)

Dear Lord, Thank you for putting me where I am, and helping me see that all people are beautiful in your sight. Teach me to love everyone equally. Amen.
