Our final omni word for God is omniscient (say it like om-ni-shent). It means all-knowing. The definition of it is kind of cool: “One who is omniscient literally knows all.” The roots are omni–“all” and a Latin verb scire, which means “to know”. Scire is related to other words like science.

So what that means–God has infinite knowledge. About the universe. About events in all parts of the world. And about you. He knows how many hairs are on your head, but more importantly–he knows how your brain and your thoughts work. He knows what makes you embarrassed. He knows what makes you laugh. He knows what makes you scared. It’s easy to get caught up in the thinking of ‘oh man, God knows that I lied to my mom’ . Yeah, he does know that. But the really cool part is –remember that He knows what makes you laugh? Did you laugh at all yesterday? God puts things in our lives for a reason. He knows you need to laugh. But he also knows when you need to be challenged. He knows you can just take life too easily. When you have a rough day, God was there in the middle of it. He gives you what you need to get through it, and to get stronger from it. He knows you inside and out.

O Eternal One, You have explored my heart and know exactly who I am;
You even know the small details like when I take a seat and when I stand up again.
    Even when I am far away, You know what I’m thinking.
You observe my wanderings and my sleeping, my waking and my dreaming,
    and You know everything I do in more detail than even I know.
You know what I’m going to say long before I say it.
    It is true, Eternal One, that You know everything and everyone.
You have surrounded me on every side, behind me and before me,
    and You have placed Your hand gently on my shoulder.
It is the most amazing feeling to know how deeply You know me, inside and out;
    the realization of it is so great that I cannot comprehend it.

Psalm 139: 1-6 (VOICE)
