Fun facts for the day: how about fun facts of the Bible? Did you know that the Bible is the best-selling book in history (100 million copies per year), and that in 1631 they made a few with the mistake of “Thou Shalt Commit Adultery” which they call ‘the Sinner’s Bible’ and 6 still exist today, China is the biggest producer of Bibles, and the movie The Matrix has a lot of Bible connections in it–the character who is a traitor is called Cypher as in the last part of Lu-cifer… interesting stuff.
Fun facts are interesting, but the fact remains that the Bible is the Word of God and is directly from him. We have the words of our Lord whenever we need them. You’d think we would respect and value them more than we do. We have a treasure available to us–let’s make an effort to read in God’s word more often. Don’t wait to be ‘in the mood’, make a habit the same time each day, maybe after you read this each day, you look up the whole chapter that our verse is from? It’s a start. Get used to staying close to God’s word for guidance now–that way when things get tough as an adult, you’ll keep turning to him, instead of turning to what the world says.
14 But you should continue following the teaching you learned. You know it is true, because you know you can trust those who taught you. 15 You have known the Holy Scriptures[b] since you were a child. These Scriptures are able to make you wise. And that wisdom leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is given by God. And all Scripture is useful for teaching and for showing people what is wrong in their lives. It is useful for correcting faults and teaching the right way to live. 17 Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work.
2 Timothy 3:14-17 (ERV)
Dear Lord, Thank you for giving us the Bible. I don’t understand a lot of it, but help me be patient and help me grow in my wisdom and understanding. Amen.
