April 28, 2020: Superheroes Unite!

Today is National Superhero Day–how ’bout a couple of fun facts? Did you know that the Hulk was supposed to be gray when he first came into comic books, but they had a printing error and he ended up green? The creator of Hulk also was inspired by the book about Frankenstein and a story of a mom who moved a car to save her child–superhuman strength. And both Superman and Batman comic books started in the late 1930’s.

Who’s your favorite superhero? Wonder Woman? SpiderMan? Superman? Captain America? There are sooooo many to choose from–superheroes are everywhere and have been for years. Why are they so popular?

Most superheroes have qualities that we can use for inspiration, even if they are make-believe. SpiderMan is humble. Captain America always stands up for the right thing. Wonder Woman is all about love and truth.

You have superhero qualities in you. Did you know that? But you need to choose–what do you want to be known as–do you want people to see you as honest? Or that you are trustworthy? Or that you have a heart for helping people? How would we talk about you?

Notice how these are all qualities we talk about as Christians…

But the fruit that the Spirit produces in a person’s life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

Galatians 5:22 (ERV)

Dear Lord, teach me to be kind, patient, good, faithful and controlled. Teach me to walk in your ways. Amen.
