April 9, 2020: You Can Call Me…
Okay, this guy was really just for fun–that’s a pretty great cartoon.
Today is National Name Yourself Day. For one day, you can pick a new name–so what would you pick? Something unique, like Thor or Moana? Something beautiful like Annastasia or sporty like Brock? Or just a name you’ve always liked, maybe Jennifer, or Jose? The idea is to have fun with it and try it out for a day. Maybe you can get your family on board, maybe not. If you order food to-go today, maybe you can use your new identity. It’s a day to reinvent yourself, to have a new identity.
Sometimes Christians can lose their identity in this world. Do you label yourself–are you the smart kid? The funny one? The soccer girl? Or maybe you label yourself for what you consider your worst parts–are you the dumb kid? Or the clutzy one?
The problem is when we get too much into that–if you’re a soccer player and you love it, and you practice, watch games, want to play professionally–you can lose who you are as a child of God. God loves you for who you are in your soul–your identity is you are a child of the King. It doesn’t matter if you’re good at soccer–you wear a royal crown.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
1 John 3:1 (NIV)
Dear Father, thank you again for making me your child. Help me to remember that my identity is in you. Amen.
