Today is the birthday of the Marine Corps–it began back in 1775 to aid in the Revolutionary War. The Marine Corps kind of combines part of the other military branches–it is part land, sea and air. Fun fact: the Marines got known after the Revolutionary War ended for fighting pirates, and they were a huge part of helping during WW1 and WW2.
The Marine Corps’ motto is “Semper Fidelis” , which means “Always Faithful”. That’s a tough thing to promise. Are you always faithful? What does it mean? The basic definition is to be loyal and keep promises. What about being faithful to God? God is faithful to us–we should obey Him, even when it’s not what we want to do. God asks us to be faithful.
Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
Proverbs 3: 3 & 5 (NIV)
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart…
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (TLB)
Dear Lord, Be faithful to me. Forgive me when I do not obey your will. Help me to learn how to be faithful. Thank you for never letting me down. Amen.
