In the news this week: A 91-year old woman in France was selling her house and was going to send a lot of her stuff to a dump, but she had an expert come in first to see if anything was worth selling. Turns out, the painting of Christ being mocked, which was hanging on the wall in her kitchen over her stove, is from the year 1280, by a famous Italian painter named Cimabue. Even though it was dirty from all the years of cooking near it, experts cleaned it up and it was sold… for $26.6 million dollars. Can you imagine? She never knew she had a treasure in her house all those years.
Sometimes we don’t realize what a treasure we have–the Bible. We have God’s word, and we can go to it at any time. But a lot of times we don’t read our Bibles, and we make time for it. Do you make time for it over other things like TV? Video games? Someone put it this way–if you were paid $100 to read your Bible for half an hour would you do it? Of course. But God’s word is so much more valuable than anything else we have.
We have a treasure in our house like the lady with the painting. Why don’t you put your Bible someplace obvious this week and try to make it important this week.
So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 (EHV)
Dear Lord, Forgive me for ignoring my Bible. Help me to start reading it more, but also help me to understand it better. Amen.
