A couple of weeks ago a 10-year old girl named Selah climbed El Capitan in Yosemite. She’s the youngest person to ever do it. It’s a 3000 ft climb straight up the face of a rock. It took her and her dad 5 days to do it, which means they sleep on the side of the rock face in this hammock–kind of thing called a portaledge. Wow.
When she was interviewed about it she said
“It doesn’t take necessarily a super special person to do something like that. You have to put your mind to it. You have to think about it.”

Five days to climb. That’s a lot of determination and sticking-to-something. Do you have anything in your life that you stick with and work at every day? If not, it’s a good thing to find. Jesus calls us to keep at things–mostly our faith. Make daily habits for your faith, but also for things that bring you joy, like rock-climbing does for Selah. Try and practice persistence.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)
Dear Lord, Give me strength to run the Christian race and continue growing closer to you. Forgive me when I feel like giving up on things. Give me determination for all the projects and moments in life. Amen.
