In 1963, on August 28, Martin Luther King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. It’s one of the most famous speeches of all time, and it was an important moment in America’s history. It was a time when African-Americans were not treated equally and were fighting for equal rights.
We still live in an age of inequality–whether because of skin color, age, if you’re a boy or girl–our world is still not in unity. And unfortunately, our leaders around the world are not always stepping up like King did. They may not be saying the right words, but we can work on it ourselves.
Be the kind of kid who respects others, who treats all people fairly, and let’s make a world where everyone has the same opportunities in life. God tells us to love others, many times in the Bible.
37 Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and most important command. 39 And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor[d] the same as you love yourself.’
Matthew 22: 37-39 (ERV)
Agree with each other, and show your love for each other. Be united in your goals and in the way you think. 3 In whatever you do, don’t let selfishness or pride be your guide. Be humble, and honor others more than yourselves
Philippians 2: 2-3 (ERV)
Dear Lord, Thank you for people who have changed the world for the better. Be with our leaders and give them wisdom. Be with me and give me wisdom to do and say the right thing, and to see everyone equally. Amen.
