In the news, the country of Indonesia is making plans to move their capital from Jakarta on the island of Java, to the island of Borneo. There are many reasons, but some of the big ones are overcrowding, pollution and that the 400-year old capital city was built on a swamp area, and is sinking about 10 inches a year.

Can you imagine such a change for a country? It would shake up our identity as Americans if our capital was moved away from Washington DC.

People get lost in what their identity is sometimes–athletes think their identity is in their sport, sometimes it’s getting good grades, or music. But if that got taken away, what then? Your identity–you are a child of God. You are forgiven because of Jesus sacrifice. You are a Christian, a young person of faith.

When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (TLB)

Dear Lord, Help me to remember that my identity is in you, not anything that I’ve done on my own. Thank you for claiming me. Amen.
