AM: September 16, 2019 — Golden Toilets

Well, today is a bit of odd news… on Saturday a piece of modern art was stolen. The artwork was a solid gold…toilet. No really. The artwork is named “America” and it’s kind of a joke (which sometimes art made nowadays is), but it’s a real toilet. Museum visitors can reserve a 3-minute time period to, um, use the toilet. The solid gold toilet that actually works… The name “America” is making a statement about the rich 1%–which is from a study in 2017 that said the richest 1% of America (a very small percent of people) has 40% of all the money in the country. Don’t worry if that didn’t make sense, ask your parents to explain it, but basically it shows how uneven money is in our country. Kinda like having enough money to own a gold toilet. Which got stolen.. kind of ironic, yes?
We are not meant to get too attached to earthly things. God warns us about loving money and things too much. It’s great to have money and have things–it’s when the love or attachment to them gets too much that we have problems.
19 “Don’t save treasures for yourselves here on earth…21 Your heart will be where your treasure is.
Matthew 6:19, 21 & 24 (ERV)
24 “You cannot serve two masters at the same time. You will hate one and love the other, or you will be loyal to one and not care about the other. You cannot serve God and Money[d] at the same time.
Dear Lord, Thank you for giving me what I need for each day. Thank you for providing jobs for my parents. Help me to have balance in my attitude about money and things in life. Amen.
