Today in History: March 10, 1913 is when Harriet Tubman died. Harriet Tubman was a slave who escaped, and then went back many times over eight years to free other slave–over 300 total. She is one of the most famous black women in history because of her bravery. That kind of bravery is rare–facing death over and over again to help others.

Jesus is our ultimate example of bravery. We may not always think about it that way, but he knew what was coming for himself–he had to face the cross. And he went willingly…for us.

42 Then Jesus went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if I must do this and it is not possible for me to escape it, then I pray that what you want will be done.”

Matthew 26:42 (ERV)

Dear Jesus, thank you for your bravery in facing the cross. Thank you for dying for me. Give me bravery to do your will, and to tell others about your greatness. Amen.
