March 21, 2020: Courtesy Please
Today is National Common Courtesy Day. No, not a curtsy (when girls bow in front of royalty). Courtesy means to have “politeness in your behavior towards others”. It comes from old words that have to do with a royal court.. so ironically curtsy comes from a similar root word after all.
It’s a good time to practice courtesy towards others. Even if you’re not going anywhere, you probably have neighbors who could use a hand. But there’s one thing we all may be forgetting these days. Having courtesy may be that you are polite when other people believe differently than you do. For this virus, for example. You may not understand why it’s a serious thing, and you may roll your eyes ever time you’re asked to wash your hands. But you need to be courteous, even if you think differently.
Love one another deeply as brothers and sisters. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Romans 12:10 (CSB)
Dear Lord, I’m struggling with not being focused on myself these days. Help me to be courteous and thoughtful to others today. Amen.
