This day in history–a very weird fact. On July 24, 1851, in England they ended a tax on windows in houses. It sounds kind of dumb, and it really was a dumb thing–since 1696, home owners had to pay taxed on the number of windows in their houses–if you had lots of windows, you had to pay taxes on them. People would brick up their windows to save money, and poor people would be living in dark, sad rooms. When it finally ended, the people in England finally had free air and light in their houses. That seems like the worst idea ever.

There are certain things all humans need to thrive–clean air, fresh water, sunlight–those kinds of things. Imagine not having them.

What else do we need to thrive as Christians? The love of God, his goodness and mercy. But we need forgiveness. We need to admit and confess our sin to him. Seek the Lord and talk to him.

But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Deuteronomy 4:29 (ERV)

Dear Lord, You are worthy of praise. Forgive me for not coming to you with praise, adoration and confession today. Give me wisdom. Amen.
