I bet you didn’t know that today is National Paper Airplane Day. It’s really kind of weird that some of these national days even exist, but at least paper airplanes are a good one.

The record for farthest flight of a paper airplane is 226 ft, 20 inches, and the longest flight stayed in the air for 29.2 seconds. I’m lucky if mine stay in the air for 2 seconds and go 4 feet.
There are four forces at work when throwing a paper airplane–the one that helps it go up is called lift–it’s the force that acts on the wings. The force that it has to fight to stay up… gravity. You know all about gravity, right? It draws things back to the earth, or in other words, makes things fall to the ground.
Lift and gravity make me think about God and sin. God is like the lift on a plane’s wings–when we believe, have faith, pray and ask God to be with us, He lifts our eyes towards him and heaven. Gravity is like sin and Satan, always trying to bring us down, trying to shake our faith.
Have faith and lift your eyes upwards. And He will lift you up.
Don’t shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going on around Christ—that’s where the action is. See things from his perspective.
Colossians 3:2 (MSG)
Dear Lord, Draw me heavenwards. Lift my eyes and thoughts to you this week, every day. Help me to remember to think of you. Give me strength for the week. Amen.
