Today is International Artist’s Day, meant to celebrate artists all over the globe. It’s also Picasso’s birthday. Fun fact: did you know that Picasso was once suspected of stealing the famous Mona Lisa painting? It was stolen about the same time as some sculptures–the sculptures ended up in Picasso’s house because a friend of his actually stole them and sold them to Picasso, so he looked kind of guilty for a bit… but the Mona Lisa ended up in Florence, Italy after all that.
Creativity and talent are gifts from God–every person on earth is creative–it may not always be in art, but everyone has creativity in them. Same with talent–God gives us talents to use. We can choose to use them, and honor God by working with them. Or we can choose to let them sit, unused. We have the choice…
But which do you think God would prefer? And also, don’t you think God gave us our talents to bring more to our lives? So we can live them to the fullest? He doesn’t want us sitting on our phones, on the couch, watching life go by. He wants our lives to be challenging, full of growth–but in a way that brings us purpose, joy and peace.
11 As you serve the Lord, work hard and don’t be lazy. Be excited about serving him!
Romans 12:11 (ERV)
“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!’
Matthew 25:23 (NIV)
Dear Father in Heaven, forgive me for hiding my talent, and not wanting to use it. Help me to be bold and use my gifts, help me to do my best with them–even if my best is not that great. Help me to be proud of my efforts and to be happy about them. Amen.
