Fun fact for the day: did you know that some baby turtles talk to their siblings while still in the eggs so that they will hatch at the exact same time? That’s pretty cool. I bet you and your brothers/sisters don’t talk quite like that to each other, eh?
How we talk to each other in Christ is important. In James, he says the tongue is the hardest thing to control. He compares it to a small flame that starts a huge fire. James tells us that we can’t be perfect, and that we need to watch out for praising God one minute, then saying something mean the next minute. Be intentional with your words–that means to stop and think about what you say to people–is it kind? does it necessary? would you say it if Jesus were standing next to you?
We use our tongues to praise our Lord and Father, but then we curse people who were created in God’s likeness. 10 These praises and curses come from the same mouth. My brothers and sisters, this should not happen. 11 Do good water and bad water flow from the same spring? Of course not.
James 3:9-11 (ERV)
Dear Jesus, Help me to watch what I say. Forgive me–I often say the wrong thing. Amen.
