Today we’re just going to look at a Bible verse:

Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love…I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

2 John 3, 5-6 (NIV)

In 2 John, he’s writing to remind them of an old truth–obey God and walk in love. Those two things are connected. When we are walking with God, trying to obey his commands, it makes sense that we are reading the Bible, praying and trying to learn more about God. When that happens, we are more capable of loving others around us. 2 John goes on to warn believers to watch out for those who do not tell the truth, another reminder to walk in the truth and to keep good friends around you, who will help you walk with God.

Dear Jesus, thank you for loving me. Forgive me for not spending enough time with you. Your word is precious and I should honor it more. Give me good friends who love you to be in my life, and help me to be that kind of friend to others. Amen.
