January 5, 2020 – Unexpected Problems

In the news this week, drivers in Washington State on New Year’s Eve had some unexpected trouble–not crazy drivers, crazy tumbleweeds. Yes, you read that right. Somehow, a bunch of tumbleweeds broke off in the wind and made a blockade on the road…30 feet high…three football fields long of an area. It took 10 hours to free trapped cars, and they had to use snowplows.
Life throws you some unexpected things for sure–who would expect to get snowed in by tumbleweeds? And life will throw you problems you never see coming–some big, some small. All you can do is try and react to them by turning to God. Remember yesterday–seek his Kingdom. In the big picture, God is in control, he is ruling the universe and cares about YOU. He cares about your problems. He wants you to turn to him, pray and ask for help, wisdom, joy and peace. Yes, joy. You don’t have to be joyful about the problem, but keep the joy of knowing that God loves you in the middle of it all.
3 And we are also happy with the troubles we have. Why are we happy with troubles? Because we know that these troubles make us more patient. 4 And this patience is proof that we are strong. And this proof gives us hope. 5 And this hope will never disappoint us. We know this because God has poured out his love to fill our hearts through the Holy Spirit he gave us.
Romans 5:3-5 (ERV)
Dear Jesus, Be near me today, I may not have huge problems right now, but I still struggle with little things. Give me joy in knowing that you are with me and that I AM LOVED. Amen.
