Masks and Faces: May 19, 2020

One thing for sure that we can’t get away from right now? Masks. You maybe don’t like wearing them, but it’s something that is really helpful, so keep up the good work of wearing them. People seem to be getting really creative about their masks–if you go on Amazon, there are ones with crazy teeth like a super-villain, TV and movie characters, and a lot of patriotic flags. It’s funny, because usually someone wearing a mask is either doing it for a different type of protection (sports, jobs, construction), or to hide themselves (robbers, halloween).
Sometimes people try to hide from God, usually after they’ve sinned and they don’t want to face him. Which is pretty silly when you think about it, but how often do you avoid your parents after you’ve lied to them? Or broken something? And we do it with God, maybe just not really thinking about that we’re doing it. How do you hide from God? By not praying or talking to him, by not thinking about God. Adam and Eve tried to hide, and that didn’t work.
Remember: 1. You can’t hide from God and it’s always better to confess instead of carrying guilt around. 2. You can’t hide from God–and that’s a good thing because he’s always with you.
“Someone might try to hide from me in some hiding place. But it is easy for me to see that person”, says the Lord, “because I am everywhere in heaven and earth.”
Jeremiah 23:24 (ERV)
Dear Lord, forgive me for my sins and for not admitting them right away. Thank you for dying for me and for loving me. Amen.
