Ahoy, me hearties. Shiver me timbers. It’s time to walk the plank, arrrrrr… Can you get what day it is? It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day! So Talk Like a Pirate Day has been around since 1995, when a couple of friends were playing a game called racquetball, and were doing really badly. They started yelling out encouragement in pirate words, and it became a thing.

So if you decide to talk like a pirate today, you’ll probably have to stop and consider what words you need to say. Which is a good thing. We could all use a bit more of that. Think about how many times during your day that you maybe say something a little negative to your mom, or maybe you make fun of someone at school, without really meaning to. Or maybe you got a little braggy and were talking about yourself.

Today try and be a little intentional with your words–that means to stop and think about them first.

My dear brothers and sisters, always be more willing to listen than to speak.

James 1:19 (ERV)

Dear Lord, help me to watch my words carefully and to use them to encourage and bring positive thoughts to those around me. Amen.
