On today’s date in 1862, two scientists, Louis Pasteur and Claude Bernard, did the first tests on pasteurization. What is pasteurization? It’s a way to make some foods and liquids safe to eat, or safe to keep in the fridge for more than a day or two. One of the biggest foods to be pasteurized? Milk. Milk gets heated slightly to kill any harmful bacteria, so then it gets cooled and sent to stores, so it stays good for longer periods. I’m pretty thankful for that process–it’s hard enough keeping milk in the house–what if it only was good for one day? There’s nothing like sour milk for sure.

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see— how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.

Psalm 34:8 (MSG)

The Bible tells us to taste and see that the Lord is good. It sounds a little weird , but the idea is to jump in and not just wait on the side. Eating and tasting things is usually a thing we enjoy, so this is to try out God and enjoy him. God is so good, and we do enjoy him. But we should focus on it a bit more. How can you taste and see God’s goodness today?

Dear Lord, show me how to taste and see your goodness. Give me eyes open to look, and tastebuds ready to try. Amen.
