Today is National Creative Ice Cream Flavors Day. You may be thinking something Creative like a Ben & Jerry’s flavor… nope. We’re talking Horseradish flavor, Fig & Turkey, Corn on the Cob –like really crazy flavors. Some even look weird–check out the photo for Booger Ice Cream (which luckily is vanilla, caramel & marshmallow flavored). But the next one on that list… Cicada ice cream… um, a cicada is a bug… sure it’s covered in chocolate, but still, um… no. We’ll move on to glow-in-the-dark vanilla please.

The thing with these crazy flavors? I’d bet that most of them are actually delicious if you’re brave enough to try them. Sometimes a flavor like Pear & Cheese sounds disgusting, but it may be amazing. You miss out on things when you don’t let yourself get past the first impression of it.

Sometimes we can have a bad impression of someone, or a place–we can be close-minded to people and experiences. But as Christians, we should beware of putting up our guards and not being open-minded. Having an open mind doesn’t mean to give up what you believe, it just means you’re ready to learn from someone else on their point of view. See their side of things.

God has given me a special gift, and that is why I have something to say to each one of you. Don’t think that you are better than you really are. You must see yourself just as you are. Decide what you are by the faith God has given each of us.

Romans 12:3 (ERV)

Dear Lord, help me to see myself as your Child, and to see everyone around me as your children. Forgive me when I’m close-minded to other people. Amen.
