Nice and Cheesy… — July 14, 2020

Today is one for everybody–National Mac ‘n Cheese Day! Did you know that Kraft Mac n Cheese–sells 1 million boxes PER DAY!?! And 12% of the mac eaten every day is for breakfast…another 12% is eaten before lunchtime…so about a quarter is eaten early. And in Canada–they love it even more than we do–it’s considered a national dish… except they put ketchup on it… ew.
Mac n cheese is such a favorite because it’s what we call a comfort food–a food that makes you think of home, love and feeling good. What is our comfort as Christians? It’s actually the first question in a church book called ‘The Heidelberg Catechism” which put the main beliefs of Christianity into words for us. It answers that our only comfort is:
That I am not my own, but belong with body and soul, both in life and in death, to my faithful Saviour Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from all the power of the devil. He also preserves me in such a way that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, all things must work together for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit he also assures me of eternal life and makes me heartily willing and ready from now on to live for him. |
You are not your own–you belong to God who knows when a hair falls off your head and has set you free from sin and Satan. That is a comfort for sure.
Dear Lord, thank you for knowing me so well and for dying for me. Forgive me for not always remembering that I am yours, and that this world is not my home, but my home is with you. Amen.
