PM: July 18, 2019 — Selfish or Selfless?

Fun fact #2 for the day: In 1962, the carmaker Volvo came up with a new seat belt design that would make them much safer… and they gave away the patent (which makes it to where only they can use it legally). They basically shared this new invention with every other car maker instead of being the only one with the design. Why did they do it? To save lives.
That’s pretty unusual in any industry–most companies are trying to make as much money as possible. Volvo has always been know as a leader in safety for cars, but that’s pretty impressive to do that.
Sharing is not always easy. It’s more natural to keep the best things to ourselves. If there’s one brownie left, do you offer it to your dad, or do you grab it? If a friend comes over to play, do you give them the nerf gun that’s working best, or the drone you just got? We need to practice it–after you share, you do feel good about it, and the more you do it, the more natural it will feel. Fight your selfishness and be generous.
32 “So don’t be afraid, little flock. For it gives your Father great happiness to give you the Kingdom.
Luke 12: 32-34 (NLT)
33 “Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it. 34 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
Dear Lord, Help me to figure out how to share willingly. Forgive me for when I want to keep things to myself. Amen.
