In 1 Chronicles 28, we see the story of David giving his son Solomon what he needs to build the great temple for God. David was told by God that he could not be the one to build it, but Solomon was wise and worthy of it. He tells Solomon:
9 Solomon, my son, get to know the God of your fathers. Worship and serve him with a clean heart and a willing mind, for the Lord sees every heart and understands and knows every thought. If you seek him, you will find him; but if you forsake him, he will permanently throw you aside. 10 So be very careful, for the Lord has chosen you to build his holy Temple. Be strong and do as he commands.”
1 Chronicles 28: 9-10 (TLB)
Notice? the first thing is get to know the God of your fathers, worship him, seek him. Solomon turned out to be a great king, but his first task was a huge temple, worthy of God. It probably seemed overwhelming, but later in the chapter David tells his son these famous words:
“Every part of this blueprint,” David told Solomon, “was given to me in writing from the hand of the Lord.” 20 Then he continued, “Be strong and courageous and get to work. Don’t be frightened by the size of the task, for the Lord my God is with you; he will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly.
1 Chronicles 28: 19-20 (TLB)
He tells Solomon to be strong & courageous and GET TO WORK. And don’t be frightened by how big this project may seem. God is with you.
Whatever your project, whatever your worries are, whatever your parents have told you that you need to do–be strong and courageous, don’t be intimidated by your goal–take baby steps towards it and GET TO WORK. God is with you. He will see to it that your goal “everything is finished correctly”. It may not end up how you thought it would, but it will get finished how God’s perfect plan wanted them to be.
Dear Lord, I want to do this goal of _______________________, but I keep putting it off, or getting afraid that I may fail. Forgive my laziness and forgive my negative thoughts. Give me courage to get to work. Thank you for making sure my goals will be finished correctly when I get going. Amen.
