Well, Well, Well: May 23, 2020
There’s an old hymn you may have heard in church before called “It is Well, With My Soul”. Here’s part of the lyrics:
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul
Some of the words are kind of old and may not make sense, but it means when times of peace come your way, or when sorrows come to you –whatever happens, God taught us to say it is well with my soul.
When we say it is well with my soul it means a few things–it means you are content with what God has given you, and it means that your soul is saved and it’s in God’s care. Even if you can’t be at peace physically, your soul is at peace. So no matter what happens to you, you have a place in Heaven with God for eternity. Hopefully it helps us to not worry quite as much about life here on earth.
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.
3 John 1:2 (NRSV)
Dear Lord, Forgive me for worrying. Help me to remember that all is well with my soul, and because of that, the things in life are not as important. Amen.
